joy: lake norman family photographer

Jan

this post really needs no words because the photographs speak volumes all by themselves. however, because its more fun for me to narrate photo sessions, i will :)
i've got three things to say about this family before posting the pics:
1. if you are booking a photo session and ever wonder to yourself what kind of clothes should we wear, take note! beka, you should be a stylist :)
2. joy is undeniable, never forced & one of the most amazing emotions that god created in us. there is nothing greater that i love to capture with my camera & it is oozing from these photographs.
3. i think it is utterly hysterical that beka tells me that she & the hubbs don't photograph well. haha, yeah right.

take a drink of joy...

**geek note for any photogs wondering - i used a 24mm 2.8 lens for this ENTIRE session :)

pure joy.

gosh, i love these. everything was perfect about this day & location.

so real. so fresh. so fun.

maybe the best smitten signature kiss shot EVER!

uh huh. this is what you call lucky timing.

gorgeous.

what was that about not photographing well? i have a custom function on my camera that is called "don't lie". :)

hello, hotness.

just another day in their fun little world.

maybe my favorite series of the day.

jackson has scrumptious eyes.

and this is parker, the little beauty with golden locks and the cutest smile.

sharon: "quick, everyone get in the trunk of your SUV!"
family: "uh, okay, cool!"
result = awesomeness.

okay, greater charlotte...i know lots of you are waiting until spring or summer to have family photos taken, but this just goes to show what a fun look you can have over the next few months! i've got LOTS of unique, one-of-a-kind photo session ideas/locations just filling up my brain right now, so you need to take advantage while you can! i'm booking for the rest of the year right now at my standard rate, but, if you book a family session in the months of february & march, you will get $50 off the $300 fee. come on, you know you want photos like this to hang all over the walls in your house :) email sharon@smittenphotography.com to book a session!

wedding art.

after the cake has been eaten and the flowers have dried there is a book that will remain in your family for years to come & will allow you to relive your wedding day anytime you want.
the album.
i love when the ups man leaves big boxes at my front door. i know that what's inside is a piece of art, bound in leather & sealed with a kiss. i can't wait for couples to get their albums and feel one more rush of emotion as they see their favorite photographs preserved in a unique and lasting way. here are a couple pictures of two albums that came this week!

stillness.

this is not a word that i have used much at all in the last three and a half months. in fact, stillness has truly been lacking in my life. being home with a newborn, suffering from painful reflux resulting in restless sleep at night, a busy 4 year old who needs her mama more than ever, having a hubby work a job in ministry with crazy hours, running a business, finding time to be with family & friends & trying to squeeze in an hour a week to make it to the gym by myself - there is nothing still about it.
i know this is a stage of life, something that i will look back on and miss. i try every day not to wish away these moments - the sound of my little girls feet walking down the stairs in footy pajamas holding her blanket, the whole-hearted-takes-all-his-energy smiles that my baby boy gives me every second that he is awake & staring at me with the reassurance that he knows he is loved, cared for & needed. but, i cannot deny that on rainy, dreary, winter days like this - i would give anything to be able to crawl back into bed, rest my eyes for two hours & recharge my soul that is tired and thirsty in this season of life.
my sweet hubby sent me a text today with a scripture that he said reminded him that we have a refuge when we are broken, tired & in need of rest. i read the passage in psalms & there i drank in the 8 words that left me reassured that my life is in bigger hands:

be still, and know that i am god.

still. quiet. silent. peaceful.
they aren't the words that fill my mouth these days, but i was reminded that they can fill my heart & if i hold onto them they can become the reassurance that i need to make it through the tougher days. i wouldn't trade my life for anything in the world & god has rained down more blessings on me than i could have ever hoped or imagined. it is this that is my hope, and in this hope, i long to be still.

in 9 weeks we'll be packing up our munchkins and heading to the beautiful beaches of maui, hawaii for a vacation without computers, cell phones or internet! for some reason, vacation at the end of the winter months is so much more appealing to me than waiting until summer! i remember years growing up where we had record snowfalls in march - just when it seemed like winter was ending it decided that one more blast of coldness would solidify our memories for that year. i told my hubbs to remind me on days like this that come april, we'll be dipping our toes in the clear blue waters of the maui shoreline & peeking our toes of out the sand :)

paper snob.

Jan

back in the day, i owned a business doing custom stationery design. i designed everything from wedding invitations to baby announcements to christmas cards to personalized notecards. when i started my photography business, stationery quickly dissolved simply from the lack of time to run both ventures. although photography is my first love, i still really love doing design when i get the chance! so, when amber and taylor asked me to design their save the date i was super-duper excited! i will be designing all of their wedding stationery and will share the invitation package when it is complete, but thought i'd show you their romantically fun save the date...

here's a weird fun fact about me:
sometimes, when i go into stationery stores and look at paper products i actually smell them. there is something really yummy about the smell of paper with ink on it, but seriously, i am a paper snob :)
