gratitude 2009.

Dec

of all the words i could use to sum up this year gratitude is the one that comes to my mind first. i'm not much of a new years' resolution maker, but i am definitely a look back on the past year reflector. i have learned a lot in 2009. i have been challenged in ways i never thought possible. i have walked hundreds of steps to and from the hospital carrying my sick baby boy. i have held him while he cried before being put under anesthesia and have waited anxiously with my husband for test results. i have cried tears of joy. i know what it means to beg god for a miracle, to ask him for strength to make it through something that seems like it will never end. i have held my little girl's hand and walked her to her first day of kindergarten. i have dozed off with her as we snuggled in bed and she told me one of her silly made up stories. i have laughed until my stomach hurt. i have been loved better than i deserve by my sugie {pronounced shhoogie}. i have been surrounded by amazing friends. i have held miracle babies. it's been a really amazing year.
and then, if i add in the incredible people that i have had the chance to work with, my gratitude overflows. when photography found me a little over three years ago, i had no idea that i would be working with clients that bring me so much joy. thank you doesn't seem good enough but there isn't really anything else to say. i have been blessed by the tears my brides have cried as they walked down the aisle. i have been unabashedly silly behind the camera to make a two year old laugh. i have had warmness in my heart watching a daddy love his little girl in front of my camera. this job is more than what i do, it's part of who i am. and when i look back over this year i am very grateful for the memories i have been given with each click of the shutter...

eight times the goodness

running around with eight kids wouldn't be most people's idea of a fun afternoon, but it sure is mine :) joe and pat gibbs have a special love for their grandkids and it is so fun for me to get to capture them together once a year! the gibbs' family have taught so many people about commitment and what it looks like to endure trials with incredible faith in the god who created us. it is especially amazing to see taylor so healthy and growing up alongside his brothers and cousins. this april, we will rejoice with taylor and his family as he reaches his third year of being cancer free! last april, espn did a feature story on joe's return to nascar & how taylor played a major role in that. if you haven't seen the video, you can watch it here. enjoy some of my favorites of the kids playing near the shores of lake norman...

smitten. love. story.

horray! the 3rd annual smitten love story contest is here! this year, we are shaking things up a little to make the contest even more exciting. the rules are simple, so if you are engaged, know someone who is engaged or would really like to get engaged so you can enter to win, here's what you need know:

1. smitten is giving away free wedding photography. yes, i said free! the winner will receive up to 8 hours of wedding day coverage by sharon and a dvd of all the images. that's a package worth $4900.
2. how fun is that?
3. the wedding can be anywhere & if it is outside of charlotte, north carolina travel costs will apply to the winner.

now what?

we are looking for really fun and unique couples to share their amazing love stories! at smitten photography, we are all about brides and grooms that are head over heels in love. couples who have found their soul mates, their i-can't-live-without-you, one of a kind romances. every couple has a story & we want to hear yours!

before you enter, please read the following guidelines for making your submission:

1. couples must be having a wedding in 2010. dates are subject to availability by smitten photography. if you submit a wedding for a date that is already booked, you will be notified by email that your date is unavailable.
2. love stories may be displayed in any means that the couple desires within the context of ONE 8.5x11 sheet of paper. we want you to get creative and think outside the box! please submit a photo with your entry. submissions should be emailed to sharon@smittenphotography.com
3. in case you missed it, your love story must fit on an 8.5x11 sheet of paper. this is your only guideline & we want you to feel free to share your love story in the way you see best. stick figure drawings, sure. haiku, absolutely. magazine cutouts, why not?! mixed tapes, nope. that won't fit on an 8.5x11 piece of paper. get the idea?! great.
4. we will accept entries until december 31st at midnight. anything submitted after that day will not be considered for the grand prize.
5. a panel of judges will read all the entries and pick their top three favorite submissions. the three stories will be posted on the smitten blog on january 7th where readers will vote on the best story and a winner will be crowned! voting will take place for 24 hours.

spread the word. this is my favorite contest of the year & i cannot wait to see couples creatively tell their love stories! be smitten :)

**edit to add :: please include your wedding date, wedding location & both of your names when submitting your love story**
