twenty days ago we welcomed a 6 pound 6 oz. new bundle of love into our family. his name is finley blu ... we are so in love we can hardly stand it. i've always heard that the third child can be the most laid back but given our fussy baby history i wasn't placing any bets that we could have a chill baby. so far, finley has proven me wrong! he seems to have a very easy going nature, goes with the flow of our daily life, eats wonderfully, sleeps great ... fits right into the family! i've been eating dairy and gluten free for the past 4 months in hoping that his little tummy would be happy and i think that it is working! he's definitely "woken up" this week ... i love getting to look in his eyes more throughout the day and tell him how happy we are that he is here :)
we are getting settled from our move to north carolina and loving this extremely mild winter that is happening in the south! i spun out on a snowy colorado road our last week living in the rockies and it is nice to drive around without white knuckles clenching the steering wheel :) i have welcomed southern sunshine back into my life along with chick fil a, target ... sweet tea. i am so excited for another year of working with amazing couples, seniors ... little munchkins! so, in honor of being back in the south, i am announcing a smitten promo that you will love...

in my mind... http://www.smittenphotographyblog.com/?postID=368&in-my-mind http://www.smittenphotographyblog.com/?postID=368&in-my-mind Fri, 02 Dec 2011 14:05:00 GMT i'm gone to carolina.
can't you see the sunshine.
can't you just feel the moon shining
ain't it just like a friend of mine to hit me from behind.
yes, I'm gone to carolina in my mind.

our life has been sweet and simple living out in colorado for the last two years. we have experienced so much joy as a family ... have been surrounded by beauty in ways that we never imagined possible. our kids have new meaning for "snow days", my car has gotten so much use out of 4wd ... we can officially spot visitors in our town by seeing unfamiliar faces. the past two summers at frontier ranch have been full of adventure, making new friends, lots of laughter, playing ... watching kids meet christ for the first time. all things that we have loved beyond belief.
when we said yes to moving to colorado we were sure of one thing ... that was that god had lead us here every step of the way. we knew that there would be hard days, too, and that just comes with life. for me, personally, the move across the country was much more difficult than i anticipated. we came to a place that was unfamiliar even though we had spent several months here at different times in the last 12 years. we were comforted by the fact that we were joining a new young life family ... prayed for strength to endure the hard days together. we endured, indeed ... shared many sweet days under the big colorado sky.
almost 9 months ago, we found out that we were being blessed with another baby and we were very delighted and surprised at the same time! god's timing for bringing our children into the world has always been perfect and when people ask me how we planned out the ages of our kids so well i just laugh and say that it's because we literally have nothing to do with it :) our great expectation for baby finley has been really, really exciting. elle ... bosten are infatuated with him already. he gets prayed for at our kitchen table, gets tickled and raspberried, gets sung to ... kissed. i can't wait for our family of four to be a family of five!
it was with this news of our new baby that really made our hearts ache for our families. when we moved out west, we left behind our parents, siblings, nephews, aunts, uncles and cousins. while skype is a wonderful invention that has allowed us to stay face to face...it simply can't replace what the physical presence of our family means to us. the years while our children are young go by so quickly. i feel like it was just yesterday that we were going through the hardest time with our baby boy, bosten, being in the hospital ... now he is a thriving and healthy three year old. life is so short ... we truly feel like we are meant to live it together with the people we love. for this reason and because we feel like god has given us the peace to go, we are moving back to north carolina. we are so sad to leave frontier ranch, but are also excited for another new chapter that will be opened for us. we are moving to greensboro ... doing so in two weeks! and in case you were trying to piece it all together... we are due to have a baby in 6 weeks, and i've never made it to my due date, so this could get interesting :)
smitten photography has been a huge gift to my soul and something that i am so incredibly grateful for! nothing is changing from the photography end - i will still be photographing weddings ... lifestyle sessions and am excited to be based back in the south where i still have so many fantastic clients! traveling for weddings is something that i have really grown to love and i am currently booking for 2012 in all destinations!
these photos really do the best job of telling the story of our last two years here and as i sit here crying in my very pregnant state i can't help but feel beyond words grateful for the life that we live...

you can feel the joy of these two finally becoming husband and wife!

the wind was blowing so incredibly hard at this point in the day but i asked kristin and matt if they would want to run outside for a picture.

they said yes! and i love these three shots...

more detail perfection and the celebration began!

oh happy day :)

this wedding, like every wedding, has a story behind it. however, i know for a fact that most wedding stories don't involve hurricanes. kristin ... matt's lovely cape cod wedding was sitting prettily at the end of the path of hurricane irene. months and months of planning and creating a vision for their wedding celebration never included the possibility of a storm of this magnitude making it's way up the entire east coast. through it all, kristin and matt and their family and friends remained planted together knowing that they wanted to celebrate together come rain, hurricane winds, cancelled flights, closed roads and flooding. and although i was there to document their wedding, i found myself drawn close to the bonds that kristin and matt have with everyone who surrounded them on that day. they will forever have a story to tell about their wedding and the hardships they went through to make the day happen. they already understand what it means to ride a storm in marriage, what it means to stay even though it is challenging and what joy there is in knowing that you have each other when everything around you seems out of control. i can't wish enough love and blessings to kristin and matt and am happy to share their wedding story with you...

the true "calm before the storm" about 36 hours before the storm arrived. cape cod is entirely too beautiful of a place ... i cannot wait to go back some day!

the eve of the wedding day the couple celebrated with a boardwalk themed party.

on the morning of the wedding, the clouds arrived ... so did the wind ... heavy rain.

this was what i found on the television when i walked into the brides home where the girls were getting ready...

and this, i love so much.

there were so many incredible details created by kristin and matt ... their families!
